Year 2 Explore the Spinney on Their Nature Walk!

by | Jan 16, 2026 | Uncategorized

This week, Year 2 set off on an exciting nature walk through the spinney as part of their Science learning. The children have been studying plants, habitats, and seasonal changes, and the walk gave them the perfect chance to see these concepts come to life in the real world.

With plenty of curiosity, the children spent the morning exploring the different habitats that make the spinney such a rich outdoor classroom.

One of the highlights was discovering how the spinney changes at this time of year. The children noticed bare branches, fallen leaves, and the way the cold weather affects the plants and animals that live there. We were impressed with the thoughtful questions they asked, from “Why do some leaves stay green?” to “Where do insects go when it’s cold?”

The walk also gave the children a chance to practise important scientific skills such as observing carefully, and working collaboratively. Their enthusiasm was fantastic to see, and several children said it was their favourite part of Science so far this year!

A big thank you to the adults who came along to support us. Experiences like this help bring learning to life and encourage our young scientists to explore the world around them.

Well done, Year 2 — we cannot wait for our next outdoor adventure!
