Year 2 Explore Self-Portraits with Our New iPads

by | Sep 11, 2026 | Year 2

Year 2 have been enthusiastically exploring our new iPads and discovering the many ways technology can support and enhance learning across the curriculum. As part of their Art lessons, the children used the iPad cameras to help them create detailed self-portraits, combining observation skills with creativity and artistic expression.

Using the camera as a reference allowed the children to study their own facial features more closely, paying careful attention to details such as the shape of their eyes, noses, mouths, hairstyles and expressions. They enjoyed experimenting with different poses and facial expressions, helping them to understand how artists observe and capture the unique characteristics of a person.

The activity encouraged children to slow down, look carefully and think critically about proportion, shape and detail. It also provided an excellent opportunity to develop their digital literacy skills as they learned how technology can be used as a tool to support creativity and learning.

The results were fantastic! Each self-portrait reflected the individuality and personality of the artist, and it was wonderful to see the children taking such pride in their work. They showed great concentration, perseverance and attention to detail throughout the process.

By combining technology and art, the children were able to explore a new approach to portraiture while developing confidence in both their creative and digital skills. We are incredibly proud of the beautiful artwork they produced and look forward to seeing how they continue to use our new iPads to support their learning across the curriculum.

Well done, Year 2!
