Enjoying the Summer Holidays Safely

by | Jul 17, 2026 | F1, F2, Whole School, Year 1, Year 2

The children across the school have been discussing how to enjoy the summer holidays safely, including- Staying Safe Online, Sun and Water safely. These are some of the key points the children have been discussing.

Being Smart and Safe Online

As technology becomes an everyday part of children’s lives, learning how to stay safe online is just as important as learning road safety or water safety.

Here are some family-friendly online safety tips:

💻 Talk regularly about what children are doing online.

💻 Remind children never to share personal information such as their name, address, school or passwords.

💻 Encourage children to tell a trusted adult if something online makes them feel worried, upset or uncomfortable.

💻 Use age-appropriate apps, games and websites.

💻 Set clear family rules and supervise online activity where appropriate.

Creating an open conversation about online experiences helps children feel confident about asking for help when they need it.

Staying Safe in the Sun

Children love being outdoors, whether they are playing in the garden, visiting the park or enjoying family days out. While sunshine can be lots of fun, it is important to protect young skin from harmful UV rays.

We encourage families to remember the simple steps of:

☀️ Slip on a T-shirt that covers shoulders.

☀️ Slop on sunscreen with a high SPF and UVA protection.

☀️ Slap on a wide-brimmed hat to shade the face and neck.

☀️ Seek shade during the hottest part of the day.

☀️ Sip plenty of water to stay hydrated.

By making these habits part of your daily routine, children can enjoy the sunshine safely.

Water Safety Matters

Whether at the beach, swimming pool, river or even in the garden paddling pool, children should always be supervised around water.

Key water safety reminders include:

💧 Never leave children unattended near water, even for a moment.

💧 Make sure children swim in supervised areas whenever possible.

💧 Encourage children to listen carefully to lifeguards and pool staff.

💧 Teach children that rivers, lakes and canals can be dangerous, even if the water looks calm.

💧 Ensure children wear appropriate flotation aids when needed.

Helping children understand these simple rules can make a big difference in keeping everyone safe around water.
